Packing Guide

Everything you need to pack your 1Bag for the first time. It takes about 5 minutes.

Before your trip

  • Charge your PocketVac. It’s cordless and rechargeable. Give it a full charge a day or two before you leave.
  • Check your airline’s size limits. Carry-on and personal item sizes change by airline and fare, so look up yours before you fly.

Pack it in 4 steps

  1. Open the bag flat. It opens all the way, like a suitcase, so you can see everything.
  2. Fill the grey inner bag with clothes. Fold or roll them flat. Soft things only: clothes, jackets, towels. Keep shoes, liquids and electronics out of the inner bag.
  3. Zip the inner bag all the way closed. Run your finger along the zip to check it’s closed from end to end.
  4. Pump the air out. Hold the PocketVac on the round valve and press the button. Stop when the bag is flat.

Where everything else goes

  • Toiletries: in a toiletry bag in the front organizer. For flights, liquids go in containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less, all in one quart-size clear bag.
  • Laptop and chargers: in the laptop sleeve and the built-in pouches.
  • Passport, wallet and phone: in the hidden back pocket, so they stay close to you.
  • Shoes: outside the inner bag, in a shoe bag to keep your clothes clean.

At your destination

  • To unpack: unzip the inner bag and the air comes back in.
  • To repack: zip it closed and pump again. Charge the PocketVac at your hotel if you need to.
  • No PocketVac with you? A vacuum hose held on the valve works too.

Tips

  • Pack the inner bag first, then fill the rest of the bag around it.
  • Don’t overfill the inner bag. If the zip is hard to close, take one thing out.
  • Bringing souvenirs home? Use the outer compartments.
